"Certified energy saving" – HR40 from Honeywell is the first programmable radiator controller with "eu.bacCert"
SCHÖNAICH, November 2007 – Honeywell’s HR40 is the first programmable radiator controller to receive the European energy efficiency certification “eu.bacCert”. HR40 not only met all the requirements of the independent certification agency WSPCert but in fact achieved considerably better control accuracy than the standard demanded. This makes it the first time-controlled radiator controller to provide energy-efficient single room temperature control above and beyond German and international directives.
The eu.bacCert certification programme is an initiative of the European Building Automation & Controls Association – eu.bac for short. It is the companies’ reaction to the requirements of the EU guideline "Energy Performance of Buildings Directive" (EPBD) and the German Energy Saving Ordinance. These require verification of the energy efficiency of building automation products and systems.
As one of its founding members, since the beginning Honeywell has handled key roles in the Association. Ernst Malcherek of Honeywell, eu.bac president since 2006, describes the Association’s role: "With the eu.bacCert certification we, the manufacturers of building automation, are reacting to the growing demands made on the energy efficiency of buildings. Residential and commercial buildings cause around 40 per cent of primary energy consumption in Europe. This consumption can be reduced by up to 20 per cent just through optimised building technology. This is precisely where we start with the eu.bacCert certification programme, offering our partners in the market products whose energy efficiency has been confirmed by independent testing institutes and is assured beyond the borders of individual countries.”
The certification process is carried out by accredited testing laboratories that work according to European standards – the recognised certification body in Germany is the International Accreditation Forum (IFA) approved WSPCert. On the basis of specified values this institute tests the electronic radiator controller HR40 with regard to setpoint accuracy and control performance and checks the self-declaration of the manufacturer. The HR40 from Honeywell performed convincingly in the comprehensive test and became the first programmable radiator controller to receive the European certificate. In doing so the tested controller achieved considerably better control accuracy than required by the standard. For installers and planners Honeywell thus offers a reliable and energy-efficient product for demand-oriented single room temperature control.
